SkySong 3 is open for business.  In fact the third office building is already 90% occupied.

More than 100 people helped celebrate SkySong 3’s Grand Opening Tuesday afternoon and heard Sharon Harper of Plaza Companies, the master developer of SkySong, say: “This is a fabulous partnership between the City of Scottsdale and the ASU Foundation that is fulfilling ASU President Michael Crow’s vision of creativity and innovation here in South Scottsdale.”

The current tenants of the new 145,000 square-foot building is a mix of businesses that includes Theranos, Workiva, Safari Books Online, Hivewyre, Pxyl, Solugenix, Holualoa Companies and the ASU Conference Center.

SkySong 3 completes the third phase of what is planned to be a seven-stage process on the 42-acre development on McDowell Road.  When SkySong is built out, it is projected to have generated $8 billion in economic benefits to the city.

SkySong opened in 2008.  It has created more than 1,000 jobs and features businesses that represent over a dozen different countries.

Harper, the President and CEO of the Plaza Companies, explained to the crowd of business leaders that SkySong is working on plans to increase the development’s “cool factor.”  She said her company is collaborating with the city on a bike program and drafting plans to create a network of bike paths to Indian Bend Wash and Southern Scottsdale parks.  Harper added that she would like to see SkySong strengthen its connections to the Southern Scottsdale community.

Plans are now underway for SkySong 4, which may open by the end of this year or the beginning of 2016.  The SkySong development team is considering adding a retail center that may include three or four restaurants in the next phase of the project.
