The 14th Annual Wedge Skate Park Competition took place in Scottsdale on Saturday.
Forty people ranging in ages from younger than 10 to amateur level entered the competition.
Webb Hawks entered his 9-year-old son into the event.
“This contest here, you can see they all have helmets on,” said Hawks. “I’m a firm believer in that. There’s a lot of guys that get head injuries. As you see, there’s a lot of tricks that these guys are doing. So, the helmet thing is really, really good. So, as long as he wears a helmet, he’s good to go.”
The competition is meant to bring locals of all ages together.
“The City of Scottsdale gets involved with it to kind of help bring relationships between us and the skaters that use our parks,” said organizer Dan Miller.
Out of the 40 competitors there were 12 winners who each received a medal. Skateboards, gift cards and other prizes were also handed out.
